Sacred Hape & Shamanic Drumming Ceremony

What is Hape?

Hapé also known as rapé, is a sacred shamanic snuff made from finely ground Amazonian medicinal plants, tree bark, and potent wild tobacco (Nicotiana rustica).

For centuries in the Amazon basin, indigenous communities have revered this sacred medicine preparing Hapé with prayer and intention. It is an integral part of shamanic medicine ceremonies. It is perhaps best known in Brazil, where various indigenous tribes, such as the Yawanawá, Katukina and Huni Kuin, have a long history of Hapé practices.

What is the purpose of receiving Hape?

It is traditionally used by Indigenous tribes for:

  • grounding & cleansing

  • spiritual development

  • and inner clarity.

The Benefits of A Hape Ceremony?

The benefits you will experience with Hape are:

  • clearing mental fog,

  • releasing negative "stuck" energy,

  • deeply relaxes the nervous system

  • entering into a deep meditative state

  • and grounding you into the  present moment.

How is Hape Taken?

The Hape is blown into the nostrils using a ceremonial pipe kuripe or Tepi.

You may experience a slight discomfort in the nose, watering eyes and excess saliva, sweating and possibly a purge. This is all part of the cleansing process after which you may feel grounded, deeply relaxed, clear minded and held in the ever present moment.

Sacred Drumming Journey

Once everyone has been served Sorrel will continue with a Sacred Drumming journey inviting you to travel into the liminal space for inner healing and or realisations.

Before we drum we will be setting an intention to travel into the spirit realm. Sorrel will speak more about this on the day. After we have set our intention the drumming begins. The drum is our anchor and is also known as the shamans horse. As we begin to drum we allow ourselves to journey with the horse.

Sorrel was initiated into Hape from a dear soul friend who was herself initiated by the Huni Kuin tribe. For about 2 years she observed Sorrel working with the medicine and then one day as they sat together in ceremony, she said it’s time for you to be initiated as a Ceremonial Server and Ceremonial Initiator, and from there the story truly begins.

It is a medicine with many special gifts and when shared in this sacred manor opens up new ways of seeing the world around you.

WHO IS THIS CEREMONY FOR?

This is open to anyone. But if you are on medications or have any medical conditions it would be best to speak with Sorrel first: johnjccarstairs@icloud.com
